Yosemite National Park is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California.
Thousands of people have been ordered to flee a fast-moving wildfire near Yosemite National Park, which has erupted into one of the state's largest wildfires of the year.
Early Sunday, the Oak Fire had grown to more than 14,000 acres. NASA satellite images show a large cloud of smoke over the park in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, about 280 miles north of Los Angeles.
A wildfire, also known as a forest fire, bush fire, or vegetation fire, is any uncontrolled and unprescribed combustion or burning of plants in a natural setting such as a forest.
According to Cal Fire, the Washburn Fire is now 80 percent contained after two weeks of fighting, but the Oak Fire is still 0 percent contained as of Sunday afternoon.
The 2,000 firefighters battling the fire will face difficult conditions.
The fire broke out Friday southwest of the park near Midpines in Mariposa County.
According to Cal Fire, the blaze had destroyed 10 residential and commercial structures and damaged five by Sunday afternoon.
Meanwhile, firefighters have made significant progress in the fight against a wildfire that started in Yosemite National Park and spread to the Sierra National Forest.
