Blue Origins is a private space flight company based in Washington whose reusable rocket New Shepard has limitless potential for innovation and future activities while paving the way to new heights. At 82 years old, aviator veteran Wally Funk was the previous record holder who had gone to space with the first crewed flight of New Shepard on July 20.
Competition Expected
Space tourism has seen a real boom in the past few years, and 2021 saw two notable figures, Bezos and Branson, different pioneer ventures into private space travel. While Bezos’s Blue Origin opened up the possibility of horizontal space flights for humans, which will eventually lead to space tourism, Sir Richard’s Virgin Galactic took a step back – putting the venture behind the former concerning flying people to outer space.

Without delay, the world’s two private spaceships left Earth for space in July 2021. Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket carried two paying customers, including Star Trek actor William Shatner into outer space for a brief but thrilling trip. Virgin Galactic, Blue Origin’s main rival in the suborbital space tourism business, made a big announcement of their own: they intend to start fully crewed flights on July 11, and Virgin Galactic’s founder Richard Branson will be on board.
The SpaceX experience is very different than that of flying with Virgin Galactic or Blue Origin. In September, Elon Musk’s SpaceX launched and successfully brought four non-professional astronauts back on the Inspiration4 mission. The crew flew farther to orbit, clocking in three days there compared to a couple of minutes spent at the edge of space; moreover, the cost of a SpaceX trip reaches $200 million.
